Olympics 2024: India Advances to Quarterfinals with Strong Performance; Deepika Kumari Disappoints

India Archery Paris Olympics 2024: The Indian women’s archery team has made a strong entry into the quarterfinals in the ranking round at the Paris Olympics. Despite a lackluster performance from Deepika Kumari, the team as a whole shone brightly.

Ranked Fourth After Ranking Round India’s women’s archery team, consisting of Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat, and Bhajan Kaur, scored a total of 1,983 points, securing fourth place and a direct entry into the quarterfinals. Individually, Ankita Bhakat led the team with a score of 666 points, placing 11th. Meanwhile, Deepika Kumari and Bhajan Kaur failed to break into the top 20.

Individual Performances Ankita Bhakat performed impressively, especially in the last two sets of the second half, scoring 112 out of 120 points. Bhajan Kaur, aged 18, finished with 659 points, while Deepika Kumari ended just behind her with 658 points, ranking 23rd.

Direct Entry into Quarterfinals According to the rules, teams in the top 4 of the ranking round secure a direct entry into the quarterfinals. With their fourth-place finish, India will now face the winner of the France vs. Netherlands match in the quarterfinals. Teams ranked 5th to 12th will need to compete in the Round of 16 first.

Objective of Ranking Round The ranking round aimed to create a bracket for 128 athletes in the archery competition. These athletes will now compete individually based on their rankings, progressing through the Round of 64, Round of 32, pre-quarterfinals, semifinals, and ultimately, the finals.
