In a massive show of community participation, the Bhagwant Mann Government organised a statewide Mega Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) across all government primary, middle, high, and senior secondary schools as part of the ongoing “Punjab Sikhya Kranti” initiative. The event witnessed an overwhelming response with over 18 lakh parents turning up in a single day, making it one of the largest school-community engagement exercises in the country.
Revealing details of the Mega PTM, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced that the government will soon roll out the Students Absent Alert SMS System in all government schools. Under this system, parents will receive immediate SMS notifications whenever their child is absent, aimed at improving regularity and accountability.
The Education Minister said, “Parents were sensitised about the upcoming Students Absent Alert SMS system through structured orientations and one-on-one discussions. The Mega PTM went far beyond mere report card distribution. Describing the Mega PTM as a transformative step, Harjot Singh Bains stated, “All government schools dedicated the entire day exclusively to parent-teacher-student interactions. Classrooms were turned into collaborative spaces for meaningful dialogue rather than routine academic transactions. This is a major shift towards building a responsive and inclusive public education system.”
He emphasised that Punjab Sikhya Kranti is not just about infrastructure but about building strong partnerships between schools and families. “When parents and teachers work together, every child benefits. This Mega PTM was aimed at strengthening that vital partnership across the state,” he added.
The PTM also served as a platform for the enrollment drive for the new academic session and for disseminating information on key initiatives such as Mission Samarth, Hunar Sikhya, and other flagship programmes.
The massive participation in the Mega PTM underscores the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government’s strong commitment to community-driven education reforms. By converting report card days into real conversations, the state is reinforcing its vision of a participatory and outcome-driven education framework under Punjab Sikhya Kranti.
