Pakistan-Backed Arms Smuggling Module Busted; Two Arrested with Six Modern Pistols

In a significant breakthrough under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s directive to combat drugs and crime, the Tarn Taran Police dismantled a Pakistan-supported arms smuggling module, arresting two operatives along with six advanced pistols. The operation yielded four 9mm Glock 26 pistols and two .30 bore PX5 pistols, along with live cartridges. Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav shared this update on Thursday.

The arrested individuals, identified as Surjpal Singh and Arshdeep Singh, both residents of Lakhna village in Tarn Taran, were apprehended by police teams. The authorities also seized their Hero Splendor motorcycle, which was used for delivering arms consignments.

DGP Gaurav Yadav revealed that the accused, Surjpal Singh, was in direct contact with Pakistan-based handlers Rana and Sikandar, who utilized drones to deliver arms and ammunition across the border. He added that investigations are ongoing to establish forward and backward linkages, with more arrests and recoveries expected in the coming days.

Sharing operational details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tarn Taran Abhimanyu Rana stated that the action was based on credible intelligence. Under the supervision of SP City Riptapan Singh Sandhu and DSP (Rural) Gurinderpal Singh Nagara, a CIA staff police team conducted the operation near Lakhna village, leading to the arrests.

Further investigation revealed that after receiving the arms consignment, Surjpal supplied it to various criminal modules. SSP Rana emphasized that efforts are underway to determine the total count of recovered arms and ammunition and to expose the entire network of this syndicate.

A case has been registered under Section 25 (6) (7) (1) of the Arms Act at Valtoha Police Station, Tarn Taran, vide FIR No. 59 dated June 4, 2025.
