Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav directed the preparation of a comprehensive traffic plan to reduce road accidents in Patiala district to zero. She emphasized that any department’s negligence leading to an accident would hold that department accountable. Dr. Yadav was presiding over a Road Safety Committee meeting organized by Regional Transport Officer Babandeep Singh.
To raise awareness about traffic rules and prevent major accidents due to minor oversights, a Road Safety Workshop is scheduled for June 1 in Patiala. Experts will provide insights on traffic regulations and educate the public. Dr. Yadav instructed that roadside vendors near Bhupindra Road, Government Rajindra Hospital, Thapar College, and Manipal Hospital be regulated to ensure smooth traffic flow. Special attention was directed toward managing traffic during school opening hours in the morning and dismissal times in the afternoon.
Dr. Yadav mandated the appointment of Road Safety Nodal Officers in all schools across the district to ensure traffic rule awareness reaches every citizen. She instructed the District Education Officer to take necessary action. She also directed shopkeepers in markets to refrain from placing goods or advertisement boards on roadsides. Black spots prone to accidents must be rectified immediately to prevent loss of precious lives. The Municipal Corporation and other departments were tasked with clearing illegal encroachments along roads and ensuring safe traffic movement.
Strict enforcement was emphasized for the Safe School Vehicle Policy, curbing underage driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol to reduce accident-related fatalities.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Navreet Kaur Sekhon, SDM Nabha Ismit Vijay Singh, SDM Rajpura Avikesh Gupta, SDM Samana Richa Goel, Chief Minister’s Field Officer Satish Chandra, Ravi Ahluwalia from Patiala Foundation, and officials from the Forest, Municipal Corporation, Education, and other departments.
