In a significant breakthrough, Patiala Police arrested a notorious criminal following a dramatic encounter involving crossfire near Fagganmajra village on the Patiala-Sirhind Road, close to Asian College Road. Acting on a tip-off, a team led by SP Investigation Gurbans Singh Bains and CIA Incharge Pradeep Singh Bajwa was patrolling the Sirhind Road area on the evening of May 14, 2025. The police received intelligence about Gurcharan Singh, alias Kalu, a resident of Bahedi village, SAS Nagar, who was allegedly planning a major crime in Patiala. Kalu, linked to a stolen Scorpio vehicle from Patiala’s Tripari area, was spotted near Fagganmajra.
When the police surrounded the vehicle, the criminal opened fire, discharging four rounds from an illegal .32 bore pistol at the police party. Demonstrating exemplary courage and discipline, the police responded with controlled gunfire, injuring Kalu in the leg, after which he was swiftly apprehended. The operation ensured no harm to the police personnel, highlighting their professionalism under pressure.
Criminal’s Background
SSP Varun Sharma revealed that the arrested individual, Gurcharan Singh alias Kalu, is a hardened criminal with over eight cases registered against him, including dacoity, armed robbery, and violations under the NDPS Act. Kalu’s arrest marks a significant step in curbing criminal activities in the region.
