Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) Navreet Kaur Sekhon announced that every resident of Patiala district will be issued an Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID card. This Health ID card will maintain an online record of an individual’s complete health history, assisting doctors in understanding patients’ medical conditions during treatment. She directed District Education Officers to ensure ABHA cards are issued to all school students in the district.
Sekhon highlighted that the Health Ministry’s initiative to create Health ID cards will streamline medical treatment and healthcare by providing doctors with instant access to patients’ health records, reducing reliance on patients or their relatives for medical history.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Jagpalinder Singh reported that 46% of Patiala’s population has already received ABHA cards. He noted that every patient visiting a government hospital has their card issued at the reception counter. The Health ID, or ABHA number, ensures that health records are accessible only with the individual’s consent. The card stores details such as past treatments, blood group, type of illness, and medications prescribed.

Dr. Singh clarified that ABHA Health ID cards are issued free of cost, requiring documents like an Aadhaar card or driving license. Each card features a unique 14-digit number, enabling paperless health record management.
The meeting was attended by District Medical Commissioner Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Dr. Sumit Singh, Dr. Ashish Sharma, Dr. Jaideep Bhatia, Dr. Nitesh Bansal, all Senior Medical Officers, and officials from the Education Department.
