Patiala Welcomes IAS Officer Varjeet Walia as DC

  • Top priority: Ensuring the benefits of the government’s flagship schemes reach the people as per Chief Minister’s directives – Varjeet Walia
  • Other key focuses: Making the district drug-free, improving health and education, and completing development projects on time

Patiala, January 22:

Young IAS officer from the 2018 batch, Varjeet Walia, today assumed charge as the new Deputy Commissioner of Patiala. He replaces Dr. Preeti Yadav, who has been transferred as Managing Director of Markfed.

After taking charge, Varjeet Walia stated that his primary focus will be to ensure that development works in the district are carried out in a time-bound manner in line with the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He emphasized that all flagship schemes of the Punjab government must reach the people at the grassroots level.

He further added that, following the Chief Minister’s vision, his priorities include realizing the dream of a drug-free Punjab and a vibrant Punjab, along with further improvements in the health and education sectors. This includes ensuring the benefits of the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme reach every household. He also committed to delivering government services to the public in a transparent and time-bound manner.

It is worth noting that Varjeet Walia, a 2018-batch IAS officer, is a graduate in Chemical Engineering from IIT Delhi. Prior to this posting, he served as Deputy Commissioner of Rupnagar (Ropar). Earlier in his career, he has held positions such as Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) in Sangrur, and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Barnala.

On the occasion of assuming charge, he was accompanied by his wife, IRS officer Tania Bains, and their son Vartaaj Walia. After taking office, Varjeet Walia paid obeisance at Gurdwara Sri Dukh Niwaran Sahib and Mata Kali Devi Temple, offering prayers for the welfare of all.

Prominent officials present to welcome the new Deputy Commissioner with flower bouquets included SP Vaibhav Chaudhary, ADCs Damanjit Singh Mann, Simarpreet Kaur, and Dr. Ismat Vijay Singh, SP Palwinder Singh Cheema, Joint Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Deepjot Kaur, SDM Harjot Kaur Mavi, District Revenue Officer Ankita Agarwal, and other officers and staff from the DC office.

Upon his arrival at the District Administrative Complex, a police contingent presented a Guard of Honour to the new DC.
