Chandigarh, August 2, 2024:
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested a former Inspector of Police, Vijay Kumar, for accepting a bribe of Rs six lakh. Kumar, previously in charge of the CIA Samana in Patiala district, was apprehended in connection with an ongoing corruption crackdown.
According to a VB spokesperson, the arrest is based on a complaint lodged by Shampy Singh, a resident of Samana, who alleged that ASI Raghvir Singh, Kumar’s accomplice, demanded a Rs ten lakh bribe to influence an ongoing investigation. Singh claimed to have already paid Rs six lakh and was pressured for the remaining amount.

ASI Raghvir Singh was arrested earlier in connection with the case, and subsequent investigations led to the involvement of Inspector Vijay Kumar. Both have been booked under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The VB is continuing its investigation.
