Chandigarh, June 9
Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh convened a high-level meeting with senior officials from Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL) on Monday to evaluate power supply arrangements for farmers during the ongoing paddy sowing season.
The Minister was updated that the state has implemented a phased sowing schedule, including Direct Sowing of Rice (DSR), as per government directives. DSR was allowed from May 15 to May 31, 2025, followed by staggered transplantation across districts. Sowing began on June 1 in border and canal-irrigated districts like Faridkot, Bathinda, Ferozepur, Sri Muktsar Sahib, and Fazilka. From June 5, it expanded to Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar (Mohali), Fatehgarh Sahib, and Hoshiarpur. Today, June 9, saw sowing start in Ludhiana, Malerkotla, Mansa, Moga, Patiala, Sangrur, Barnala, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.
PSPCL officials informed the Minister that robust measures are in place to ensure continuous power supply during this critical period. A daily 8-hour supply has been active for DSR areas since May 15, with other districts receiving assured power as per the schedule. Residential and industrial sectors also continue to receive uninterrupted supply.

Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to farmers under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s leadership, Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO said, “The government is fully committed to providing seamless and adequate power during the paddy sowing season. All necessary steps have been taken to support our farmers this season.”
He highlighted the proactive coordination between PSPCL and PSTCL as a testament to the government’s efficient, farmer-centric approach to agriculture.
