Chandigarh, February 7,
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), in its ongoing campaign against corruption, has arrested Charanjit Singh, an Assistant in the complaint handling branch (CHB) at the Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) office in Barring, Jalandhar Cantt. He was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹2,000.
According to an official VB spokesperson, the arrest followed a complaint filed by Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Sainik Vihar, Dhillwan village, Jalandhar. Kumar alleged that Singh demanded ₹5,000 for the Junior Engineer (JE) Surjit Singh and ₹500 for himself to install a new domestic meter at a relative’s house in Rose Colony, Barring. The meter was installed on January 31, 2025, and Singh allegedly took ₹3,500 at that time, telling Kumar’s relative to pay the remaining balance later. Singh then allegedly threatened the complainant and the consumer that the meter could be removed if the remaining ₹2,000 wasn’t paid.
