Punjab Chief Minister Wishes to Encourage Hockey Players at Paris Olympics

–BJP’s Discrimination Due to Hatred for Punjab and Punjabis
Patiala, August 3, (Desk)
Harchand Singh Barsat, State General Secretary of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab and Chairman of Punjab Mandi Board, has strongly condemned the central BJP government’s refusal to grant permission to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for his visit to France. Barsat stated that the central government’s denial to allow Chief Minister Mann to attend the Paris Olympics has not only insulted the 3 crore people of Punjab but also hurt their sentiments, as most players in the Indian hockey team are from Punjab. He described this as an infringement on the constitutional rights of an elected representative. He emphasized that the people of Delhi and Punjab had given a significant mandate to AAP based on their performance.

Barsat noted that restricting AAP leaders from international travel is not a new practice. Previously, the Modi government had denied permission to AAP’s national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for a visit to Singapore to study their education system. Despite the ongoing success of the Indian hockey team at the Paris Olympics, where most players are from Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is being prevented from boosting the team’s morale, reflecting further discrimination against Punjab. Mann had intended to make this visit at his own expense.

Barsat also criticized the central government for not including Punjab’s tableau in the January 26 parade, failing to provide compensation to farmers and workers affected by floods, obstructing Punjab’s farmers and workers from traveling to Delhi, halting the Punjab Rural Development Fund and Health Mission Fund, and now neglecting Punjab in the central budget. He claimed these actions indicate Prime Minister Modi and BJP’s hatred for Punjab and Punjabis. Barsat concluded by urging the Prime Minister to stop discriminating against Punjabis.
