Punjab Child Rights Commission Orders Action Against Stray Dog Attacks

Chandigarh, January 24

The Punjab State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, led by Chairman Kanwardeep Singh, has taken serious note of the alarming rise in stray dog attacks on children across the state.

Following media reports of several incidents, including the tragic deaths of two children in Hasanpur village near Ludhiana, the Commission has directed the Local Government and Rural Development Departments to conduct a comprehensive census of stray dog populations in all cities.

The Commission has also urged the immediate implementation of the Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023, notified by the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, to effectively control the stray dog population and prevent further attacks on children.

This move comes in response to growing public concern over the increasing number of stray dog attacks, with reports emerging from various parts of the state, including Mohali, Zirakpur, Amritsar, Machhiwara Sahib, and Nabha.
