Punjab has marked a remarkable achievement in its battle against Tuberculosis (TB), securing the second position nationwide in the 100-Day Intensified TB Elimination Campaign, known as “TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.” The announcement came from the Government of India on World TB Day.

The state’s unwavering efforts in TB screening, detection, and treatment were celebrated at a prestigious event in New Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan. During the ceremony, State TB Officer Dr. Rajesh Bhaskar was presented with a certificate of excellence by Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda.

Launched on December 7, 2024, by Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh in Amritsar, the campaign focused on speeding up TB eradication through enhanced screening, prompt diagnosis, and better care for at-risk communities.

Dr. Balbir Singh highlighted that over the 100-day period, health teams across Punjab screened around 28 lakh high-risk individuals, detecting 17,300 TB cases. These patients received timely treatment and nutritional assistance. He further noted that the campaign emphasized preventive strategies, such as TB preventive therapy for contacts and vulnerable groups to stop the spread of new infections.
