Punjab CM Honors Hockey Heroes with Cash Rewards

Chandigarh, August 18

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday honored the state’s hockey players who contributed to India’s bronze medal win at the Paris Olympics with a cash prize of Rs. 1 crore each.

Lauding the team’s achievement, Mann expressed immense pride in the players for bringing glory to the nation. He highlighted the team’s exceptional performance, particularly their victory over Australia after a 52-year gap. The Chief Minister credited Captain Harmanpreet Singh’s leadership for the team’s success.

Mann also announced plans to establish sports clusters across the state to nurture young talent and announced the players as brand ambassadors for Punjab’s anti-drug campaign.

In a unique gesture, the Chief Minister interviewed the players, gaining insights into their experiences during the Olympics.

The hockey players, including Harmanpreet Singh and Mandeep Singh, expressed gratitude for the Chief Minister’s support and pledged to continue their efforts to bring further laurels to the nation.

The state government also awarded Rs. 15 lakh to 11 other Olympic participants from Punjab.
