Chandigarh, October 22
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann sought the intervention of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address issues hindering the smooth procurement process in the state.
During a phone call, Mann highlighted challenges such as transportation costs, storage shortages, hybrid variety quality issues, and losses faced by sheller owners. He emphasized the need for immediate action from the Union government to resolve these problems for the larger good of the country.
Mann underscored the critical roles of farmers, arhtiyas (commission agents), and millers in ensuring food security. He mentioned that the state government had made extensive preparations for procuring the expected 185 lakh metric tonnes of paddy.
However, Mann pointed out that certain issues, such as storage space, driage (transportation charges), and transportation, fall under the purview of the Union government. He emphasized the need for the Union government to address these concerns to facilitate a smooth procurement process.

The Chief Minister stressed the importance of resolving these issues for national food security and the smooth functioning of the Public Distribution System. He highlighted the upcoming wheat season and urged the Union government to take immediate action.
Mann also requested the Union government to release Punjab’s pending share of RDF (Rural Development Fund). He emphasized that Punjab has completed necessary formalities and urged the center to avoid harassing the state by delaying the release of funds.
Mann expressed confidence in Punjab’s ability to lead the country in every sphere due to the state’s hardworking and resilient people. He highlighted the government’s proactive approach and commitment to the welfare of the people.
The Chief Minister also emphasized the government’s efforts to promote tourism in the Kandi region and develop it as a tourist destination. He stressed the need for the Union government to address issues related to the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) to ensure its smooth functioning.
