Zero Tolerance for Public Disruption
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann issued a stern warning on May 5, 2025, condemning organizations planning road and rail blockades in the state, emphasizing that such actions will face strict legal repercussions. In a strongly worded statement, the Chief Minister underscored that while protests are a democratic right, causing inconvenience to the public and obstructing Punjab’s progress is unacceptable.
Alternative Protest Methods Urged
Mann highlighted that there are numerous ways to express dissent without disrupting transportation networks critical to the state’s economy and daily life. He noted that road blockades particularly harm daily wage earners and delay essential services, such as emergency medical care. Additionally, with the wheat procurement season in full swing, uninterrupted rail services are vital for transporting crops, making any disruption detrimental to farmers and the state’s agricultural interests.
“Blocking roads and railways is an act against the people of Punjab,” Mann stated. “Such protests not only inconvenience hardworking citizens but also hinder the state’s development. We will not tolerate actions that derail our progress.”
Commitment to Punjab’s Prosperity
The Chief Minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensuring Punjab’s development and prosperity, warning that those responsible for causing public distress through blockades will face severe legal consequences. “Our priority is the welfare of Punjab’s citizens, and we will take firm action against anyone disrupting daily life or the state’s growth,” he added.

Mann’s statement comes amid announcements by certain groups planning to halt transportation services, which he described as acts against the state’s interests. The government’s proactive stance aims to maintain smooth operations during critical periods like the wheat procurement season, ensuring no delays in essential services or economic activities.
Call for Responsible Protests
Urging organizations to adopt alternative protest methods, Mann emphasized the need to balance the right to dissent with the public’s right to uninterrupted services. His administration remains focused on fostering a progressive Punjab, where development and public welfare take precedence over disruptive actions.
