Punjab CM’s Call to Action for Teachers on Teachers’ Day

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann called upon teachers to play a pivotal role in preserving the state’s rich cultural heritage by educating younger generations about it. Speaking at a Teachers’ Day function in Sri Anandpur Sahib, he described teachers as nation-builders instrumental in shaping students’ holistic development.

  • Heritage and Education: Mann urged teachers to instill knowledge of Punjab’s cultural legacy in students. He announced the commencement of a Heritage Walkway project leading to Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, marking a significant step after 55 years.

  • Teachers as Nation-Builders: Drawing from his experience as the son of a teacher, Mann emphasized that teaching is a mission to enlighten students, not merely a profession. He described teachers as “Gurus” who dispel darkness with knowledge, derived from the Sanskrit words “Gu” (darkness) and “Ru” (remover).

Teachers’ Day Awards

  • The state government honored 71 teachers with the State Teacher Award 2025 across various categories for their outstanding contributions to shaping future generations.

  • Mann congratulated the awardees, noting their role in molding students into doctors, engineers, and artists, akin to a sculptor crafting masterpieces.

Response to Floods

  • Mann highlighted the devastation caused by floods, which damaged 3,200 government schools, 19 colleges, 8,500 km of roads, and 2,500 bridges, alongside 5 lakh acres of crops. He praised Punjabis’ resilience and teachers’ commendable efforts during this crisis, calling their contributions rare in global history.

Educational Reforms

  • World-Class Training:

    • 234 principals and education officers trained in Singapore.

    • 152 head teachers received advanced coaching at IIM Ahmedabad.

    • 144 primary teachers underwent specialized training at Turku University, Finland, with the next batch scheduled for November 2025.

  • Campus Managers: 1,920 campus managers appointed to allow teachers to focus on teaching.

  • Education Revolution: Launched in 2022, this initiative aims to empower Punjab’s youth to achieve their dreams.

  • Schools of Eminence: 118 Schools of Eminence established with an investment of ₹231.74 crore, providing quality education to underprivileged children. These schools are attracting students from private institutions, proving their success.

  • Free Services: Free uniforms for all students and free bus services for girls to ensure no girl is deprived of education.

  • Competitive Exam Success:

    • 265 students from government schools and Schools of Eminence qualified for JEE Mains.

    • 44 students cleared JEE Advanced.

    • 848 students qualified for NEET.

  • School Mentorship Program: Civil officers mentor government school students.

  • Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs): Held across 19,200 government schools, with 25 lakh parents participating, reflecting strong community engagement.

Mann emphasized that Punjab’s government schools now boast world-class trained teachers, and revolutionary educational steps are gaining nationwide recognition. Schools of Eminence are modern temples of learning, illuminating students’ lives and preparing them for competitive exams like NEET, JEE, CLAT, and NIFT.
