The Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has successfully procured 90% of the estimated 18,31,588 metric tonnes of paddy arriving in state mandis during the ongoing procurement season.
Key Highlights:
- Farmer Payments: Nearly Rs. 3000 crore has been credited to farmers’ accounts.
- Procurement Centers: 2651 procurement centers have been operationalized.
- Rice Millers: 2184 rice millers have applied for allotment.
- Storage Space: 30 lakh metric tonnes of storage space will be available by December.
- Grain Movement: 4 lakh metric tonnes more foodgrains have been moved compared to the previous year.
Addressing Rice Millers’ Demands:
The Punjab government has actively addressed the demands of rice millers. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has raised these issues with the Union Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister.

Key Measures for Millers:
- CMR Security: The government has returned CMR securities stuck for many years, providing relief worth Rs. 150 crore.
- Security Rate Reduction: The CMR security rate has been reduced from Rs. 175 per tonne to Rs. 10 per tonne, benefiting millers by Rs. 300 crore.
- Variable Security: The security rate is now determined based on the mill’s capacity, ensuring fair treatment for all.
Focus on Laborers:
The government has revised the loading rate for laborers/palledars working in grain markets, increasing it from Rs. 1.94 to Rs. 2.34 per sack.

The Minister urged all stakeholders to work together for a successful procurement season, emphasizing the government’s unwavering commitment to their welfare.
