38,922 SC and 20,136 BC Beneficiaries Receive Financial Support
SC and BC Welfare Remains a Core Focus of CM Bhagwant Mann’s Government
Chandigarh, March 12
The Punjab Government has allocated Rs. 301.20 crore in financial aid under the Ashirwad Scheme for families from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Backward Classes (BC) during the 2024–25 financial year, announced Dr. Baljit Kaur, Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities, on Wednesday.
Providing further details, Dr. Kaur revealed that Rs. 198.51 crore has been distributed to 38,922 SC beneficiaries, while Rs. 102.69 crore has supported 20,136 BC beneficiaries. The Ashirwad Scheme provides Rs. 51,000 to facilitate the marriage of daughters, with families eligible for assistance for up to two daughters.

To ensure transparency and prompt delivery, the funds are transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Dr. Kaur emphasized that eligibility requires applicants to be permanent Punjab residents from SC, BC, or Economically Weaker Sections, with an annual household income below Rs. 32,790.
Dr. Baljit Kaur underscored that under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership, such initiatives go beyond mere financial aid. “These schemes are vital steps toward building a vibrant and inclusive ‘Rangla Punjab,’ where the welfare of SCs and BCs is a top priority,” she said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to empowering marginalized communities.
