Punjab Government Releases Rs 14.01 Crore to 2,748 Beneficiaries Under Ashirwad Scheme

The Punjab Government has disbursed Rs 14.01 crore to 2,748 beneficiaries under the Ashirwad scheme for Backward Classes and Economically Weaker Sections. The funds were released from the 2024-25 budget.

Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur announced that the scheme has benefited residents of nine Punjab districts: Amritsar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Fazilka, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Moga, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Patiala, Pathankot, Sangrur, and Malerkotla.  

To be eligible for the Ashirwad scheme, applicants must be permanent Punjab residents from families below the poverty line. They should belong to Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, or other economically weaker sections with a combined annual family income below Rs. 32,790. Up to two daughters per family can benefit from the scheme.

Dr. Kaur emphasized the Punjab Government’s commitment to uplifting marginalized communities. The financial assistance is directly deposited into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
