Punjab Government’s Landmark Initiative to Curb Air Pollution: 1200 Diesel Autos Replaced with Electric

200 Pink E-Autos with 90% Subsidy to Empower Women

Chandigarh, February 7

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is dedicated to creating a pollution-free environment for its citizens. In a major step towards reducing air pollution, the government has replaced 1,200 old diesel autos with electric ones, marking a significant milestone in the state’s green mobility efforts.

Announcing this initiative, Dr. Ravjot Singh, Minister for Local Government, highlighted that under the RAAHI scheme, the Punjab Government has successfully converted 1,200 diesel autos into electric vehicles in Amritsar, significantly contributing to cleaner air in the holy city.

Empowering Women with Pink E-Autos

As part of the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment, 200 pink electric autos are being provided to women beneficiaries with a 90% subsidy. So far, 160 pink e-autos have already been distributed, ensuring greater financial independence and mobility for women in Punjab.

Boosting Public Transport with Electric Buses

To enhance public transportation and reduce dependence on private vehicles, the Punjab Government is procuring 347 electric buses for major cities, including:

  • 100 buses for Amritsar
  • 97 buses for Jalandhar
  • 100 buses for Ludhiana
  • 50 buses for Patiala

Additionally, electric city bus services are being planned for the S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) cluster, covering Kharar, Kurali, Zirakpur, Mullanpur, Derabassi, and Banur. A feasibility study conducted by the Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Corporation (PMIDC) for electric buses in Mohali has already been completed. These buses will offer comfortable, reliable, and eco-friendly travel for urban commuters.
