Chandigarh, December 23
Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh has directed all civil surgeons to guarantee the availability of essential medicines at government healthcare facilities to ensure citizens have access to necessary medical care.
During a Conference-cum-Training Workshop for Civil Surgeons, the Minister reviewed their performance and emphasized the importance of polite and respectful conduct from all doctors and hospital staff towards patients and their families, fostering trust in government health institutions.
He highlighted the Punjab government’s commitment, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, to allocate sufficient funds for healthcare to provide quality services.
Key initiatives announced include:
- Training for Nursing Students: Nursing students will receive training in monitoring blood pressure and hemoglobin (H.B.) levels, and conducting eye check-ups. They will also be utilized to assist patients and their attendants in hospitals.
- First Aid Training: School and college students will be trained in first aid to enable them to assist others during accidents or emergencies.
- Dengue Prevention: Nursing students will be trained as breeding checkers to identify mosquito larvae, aiding in dengue control during the monsoon season.
The Minister commended well-performing districts and encouraged other districts to improve their health and administrative structures. He also stated that dedicated health officials and employees would be recognized for their work.

PHSC Chairman Raman Bahl emphasized the importance of maintaining clean and well-maintained government health institutions, as a clean environment is crucial for quality healthcare.
Administrative Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Kumar Rahul, announced a patient feedback survey conducted to ensure quality health services. He instructed civil surgeons to improve all parameters to enhance hospital services.
Punjab Development Commission member Anurag Kundu presented the survey results, and the Health Minister directed civil surgeons to address the identified shortcomings.
