Punjab Jails Minister Advocates AI-Based Technology for Enhanced Security

Punjab Jails Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar has called for the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and modern technology to bolster security measures in the state’s correctional facilities.
During his first meeting with senior jail officials, Bhullar emphasized the importance of cutting-edge technology in creating crime-free prisons and preventing the use of prohibited items like mobile phones. He directed officials to expedite the installation of advanced surveillance systems.
To address the issue of prison overcrowding, Bhullar announced plans to construct new jails and additional barracks. He also assured officials of adequate funding for modernization initiatives and essential amenities, following a meeting with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

The minister highlighted the government’s commitment to improving the prison system, focusing on better facilities, security, and rehabilitation programs. He instructed officials to implement stringent measures to make prisons completely crime-free and to ensure financial self-sufficiency through product manufacturing.
Bhullar stressed the importance of implementing welfare schemes and providing basic amenities for both convicted prisoners and undertrials. He also discussed plans for expanding inmate educational programs, increasing the use of technology for monitoring and administration, and promoting mental health initiatives.
The Superintendents of Jails shared their challenges, including overcrowding, staffing shortages, and resource constraints. Bhullar assured them of the government’s prompt action to address these issues and implement long-term measures to improve jail management.
