Chandigarh/Batala, July 15
In a major breakthrough as part of the ongoing efforts to ensure a safe and secure Punjab under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police has thwarted a targeted killing plot by arresting five members of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang, operated by USA-based handler Husandeep Singh. The police recovered two weapons—a PX5 pistol and a .32 bore pistol—from their possession, announced Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday.
The operation was a joint effort by Counter Intelligence Punjab and the district police of Amritsar Rural and Batala.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Lovepreet Singh, Sikandar Kumar alias Gola, and Onkarpreet alias Jashan, all residents of Shahabad village in Batala; Gagandeep alias Giani from Gandhi Camp, Batala; and Mehakpreet Singh from Amritsar.
DGP Gaurav Yadav revealed that preliminary investigations indicate that Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, currently lodged in Silchar Jail, Assam, orchestrated the conspiracy to kill a rival gang member to avenge his mother’s recent murder, escalating tensions in an ongoing turf war between rival criminal groups.

The DGP stated that Jaggu Bhagwanpuria collaborated with his USA-based associate Husandeep Singh, who worked with ground handlers, including Lovepreet Singh, to mobilize shooters and execute the plan. Further investigations are ongoing to uncover forward and backward linkages in the case.
The breakthrough began when Amritsar Rural Police, led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Maninder Singh, apprehended Mehakpreet Singh. During interrogation, he revealed that Sikandar Kumar alias Gola, son of Sutresh Kumar from Shahabad village, held critical information about the shooters and the execution plan.
Sharing operational details, SSP Batala Suhail Qasim Mir said that acting on this lead, Batala Police apprehended Sikandar Kumar and his associate Onkarpreet alias Jashan. Further questioning led to the arrest of another accomplice, Gagandeep alias Giani.
SSP Mir added that Sikandar Kumar disclosed during interrogation that he was being directed by Lovepreet Singh, a key coordinator in the plot, who was subsequently arrested by Batala Police in a separate operation.
Lovepreet revealed that the entire conspiracy was masterminded by Husandeep Singh, a close associate of Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, operating from the USA, with the aim of eliminating a rival gang member.
A case has been registered under FIR No. 80/2025 at Police Station Rangar Nangal in Batala, invoking Section 25 of the Arms Act and Sections 61(2) and 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
