CHANDIGARH/AMRITSAR, May 8:
As part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh,’ initiated under the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has dismantled an international narco-smuggling network operated by foreign-based smuggler Jassa. Two of his India-based operatives were arrested, and 10 kg of heroin along with ₹1 lakh in drug money were recovered from their possession, announced Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Thursday.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Gurpinder Singh, a resident of Indra Colony, Majitha Road, Amritsar, and Sajan, a resident of Chak Mishri Khan, Amritsar. Police also seized their black Hero Splendor motorcycle (PB-02-EM-2025), which was used to transport the contraband.
DGP Gaurav Yadav revealed that Jassa, a foreign-based smuggler involved in drugs and arms trafficking, is wanted in multiple cases under the NDPS Act and Arms Act, registered at the Police Station SSOC Amritsar.
Notably, this marks the third module operated by Jassa to be busted by CI Amritsar in the last ten days. Previously, an operative named Abhishek was arrested with seven pistols and ₹1.5 lakh, followed by the recovery of 5 kg of heroin from the hideout of Jassa’s absconding associate, Jodhbir Singh alias Jodha.

Providing details of the operation, the DGP stated that acting on credible intelligence about Gurpinder and Sajan arriving near Escort Hospital on the Amritsar Bypass to deliver a large heroin consignment, CI Amritsar teams conducted an intelligence-driven operation. Both accused were apprehended while riding their motorcycle, and a search led to the recovery of 10 kg of heroin and ₹1 lakh in drug money.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the arrested individuals were acting on instructions from their foreign-based handler, Jassa, to deliver the drug consignment.
Further investigations are ongoing to trace backward and forward linkages in the case, with expectations of additional arrests and recoveries in the coming days.
A case has been registered under FIR No. 30, dated 08.05.2025, under sections 21, 25, 27-A, and 29 of the NDPS Act at the Police Station State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Amritsar.
