CHANDIGARH/AMRITSAR, February 20:
In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown against drug smuggling, the Punjab Police arrested another drug smuggler and recovered 3 kg of heroin , taking the total seizure in the case to 13 kg , announced Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav , on Thursday.
The accused has been identified as Lovepreet Singh , a resident of Main Bazar, Attari , in Amritsar. This development comes just a day after the police busted a cross-border drug smuggling racket by arresting Harmandeep Singh of Ghumanpura village in Amritsar, with 10 kg of heroin in his possession. Harmandeep was found to be in constant contact with a Pakistan-based smuggler, Chacha Bawa , who allegedly used drones to transport heroin consignments across the border.
Recovery of 3kg Heroin and Arrest of Lovepreet Singh
According to DGP Gaurav Yadav , during interrogation, Harmandeep disclosed that he had handed over 3 kg of heroin —part of the earlier consignment smuggled from Pakistan—to his associate, Lovepreet Singh , on Monday. Based on this lead, police teams nominated Lovepreet as an accused in the case and launched a targeted operation to locate him.
A special team from Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar successfully apprehended Lovepreet from the Bus Stop Khasa on the Amritsar-Attari GT Road . During the search, police recovered 3 kg of heroin from his possession, bringing the total recovery in the case to 13 kg .
Heroin Linked to Larger Cross-Border Smuggling Racket
The DGP stated that the seized heroin is part of a larger consignment smuggled from Pakistan. Investigations revealed that the drugs were transported via drones into the Attari sector before being distributed through local networks. The Punjab Police are now working to identify other associates involved in this drug smuggling racket and dismantle the entire network.
