— Preliminary Investigation Suggests Module Managed by Abroad-Based Individual; Further Investigations Ongoing

CHANDIGARH/AMRITSAR, March 23

In a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, the Counter Intelligence (CI) unit of Amritsar has dismantled a narco-terror module operating in Punjab. The operation resulted in the arrest of four individuals, including a father and his son, and the recovery of 4 kilograms of heroin. This success highlights the Punjab Police’s unwavering commitment to eliminating drug-related crimes, as mandated by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Details of the Arrests and Seizures

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  • Sukhwinder Singh and his son Navjot Singh, residents of Tarn Taran Road, Amritsar;
  • Aniket, a resident of Chheharta, Amritsar;
  • Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, from village Sheron in Tarn Taran.

The raid, conducted near the Government Hospital in Naraingarh, Amritsar, also led to the impoundment of:

  • A black three-wheeler auto (registration: PB06-AW-8034);
  • A black Hero Deluxe motorcycle (registration: PB02-DV-0351).

These vehicles were used by the accused to transport drug consignments.

Links to Pakistan-Based Smugglers

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav revealed that the module is directly connected to Pakistan-based drug smugglers. Preliminary investigations suggest the network is orchestrated by an abroad-based individual named Bhullar. The probe further uncovered that Sukhwinder Singh and Navjot Singh received a 4 kg heroin consignment from an unknown person in Rajatal village, Amritsar. They subsequently distributed 2 kg of the heroin to Aniket and Gurpreet Singh for local supply.

Involvement of Additional Family Members

Notably, Sukhwinder Singh’s other son, Harmanjit Singh alias Harry, and Aniket’s brother, Sagar, were recently arrested in a separate drug-related case by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in SAS Nagar in January 2025. Both are currently incarcerated in Amritsar Jail, and their potential links to this smuggling network are under investigation.

Ongoing Investigation

DGP Yadav emphasized that the investigation is ongoing to uncover deeper connections within the network by tracing both backward and forward linkages. He anticipates additional arrests and recoveries as the probe progresses.
