Punjab Police Extradite Nabha Jailbreak Mastermind from Hong Kong

Chandigarh, August 22: Punjab Police has brought Ramanjit Singh alias Romy, the mastermind behind the 2016 Nabha Jailbreak, back to India from Hong Kong. This extradition marks a significant victory in the state’s ongoing efforts to bring criminals to justice, as per the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav commended the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) for their tireless work in securing Romy’s extradition. He also expressed gratitude to the Hong Kong authorities, the CBI, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of External Affairs, and other central agencies for their cooperation in this international operation.
Romy, a key member of the Shera Khuban/Vicky Gaunder gang, played a crucial role in the Nabha Jailbreak, providing logistical support, weapons, fake IDs, and safe houses to the escaped prisoners. He was also in contact with the ISI and other Khalistani militants.

Despite arresting 26 other accused involved in the jailbreak, Romy had remained a fugitive. A Look Out Circular (LOC) and Red Corner Notice (RCN) were issued against him, and the extradition process was initiated in 2018 through a mutual legal assistance treaty with Hong Kong.
The Punjab DGP praised the AGTF team for their relentless pursuit of justice and the successful conclusion of this international operation. He emphasized the Punjab Police’s resolve and competence in bringing criminals to justice, even when they attempt to evade the law by fleeing the country.
