In a significant victory for Punjab’s security efforts, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has thwarted a possible terror attack by arresting an operative tied to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency, recovering a hand grenade from his possession. Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav announced the breakthrough on Tuesday, aligning with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s directive to make Punjab a safe and secure state.
The apprehended individual, Jaiveer Tyagi alias Jawed, hails from Village Baroli in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and has been living in Ludhiana.
DGP Gaurav Yadav revealed that CI Amritsar acted on intelligence about an abroad-based figure, Sehlam, linked to Pak-ISI, who, along with his cousin Jaiveer Tyagi, was plotting terror attacks on government infrastructure across multiple cities to disrupt Punjab’s peace. The tip-off indicated that Jaiveer had retrieved a hand grenade consignment in Amritsar and was awaiting accomplices near Tara Wala Pul to execute a major crime. Swift action by CI Amritsar led to his arrest and the seizure of the grenade.

Further investigation uncovered that Jaiveer, a 14-15-year Ludhianaresident, communicated with Sehlam via encrypted apps and procured the grenade on his handler’s instructions. “Investigations are ongoing to trace forward and backward linkages in this conspiracy,” the DGP added.
A case has been filed under Section 25 of the Arms Act, Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, and Sections 61(2) and 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) Police Station in Amritsar.
