Punjab Police Forms SIT to Investigate Illegal Human Trafficking After US Deportations

Chandigarh, February 7

Following the recent deportation of Indian citizens, including many from Punjab, from the United States, the Punjab Police has established a four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate potential illegal human trafficking and migration.

DGP Gaurav Yadav announced that the SIT will be chaired by ADGP NRI Affairs Praveen Sinha and will include ADGP Internal Security Shive Kumar Verma, IGP Provisioning Dr. S Boopathi, and DIG Border Range Satinder Singh as members.

The SIT’s primary focus will be to identify and hold accountable individuals involved in illegal human trafficking and migration activities.

DGP Yadav stated that the SIT has been directed to take appropriate legal action against anyone found to be involved in these illegal activities.

The committee is authorized to co-opt additional police officers as needed for the inquiry and investigation. Senior Superintendents of Police and Commissioners of Police have been instructed to provide full assistance and resources to the SIT.

This collaborative effort aims to ensure a thorough and effective investigation into illegal migration and human trafficking. The SIT’s mandate includes uncovering the facts, identifying those responsible, and recommending measures to prevent future occurrences.
