PUNJAB POLICE, IN COORDINATION WITH CENTRAL AGENCIES, EXTRADITES FUGITIVE AMRITPAL SINGH FROM AUSTRIA

CHANDIGARH/BATALA, September 13:
Reaffirming its commitment to ensuring justice under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police, in coordination with central agencies, successfully extradited fugitive Amritpal Singh from Austria. A resident of Village Bhoma in Batala, Amritpal Singh was deported to face charges related to numerous heinous crimes. He landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi at 7 am on Friday and was immediately taken into custody by Batala Police.
“After tireless efforts by @PunjabPoliceInd in coordination with central agencies, Amritpal Singh, a resident of Village Bhoma, PS Ghuman, has been successfully extradited from #Austria to #India to face charges in multiple serious criminal cases,” Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, shared on his X account (formerly Twitter).
The accused, a proclaimed offender, had been illegally residing in Austria.
DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that Amritpal Singh is involved in various serious crimes, including murder, attempted murder, drug offenses, and violations of the Arms Act. He emphasized that this extradition is a crucial step toward ensuring justice for the victims.
DGP Yadav commended the relentless efforts of the Batala Police team, led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Suhail Qasim Mir, along with the Internal Security Wing of Punjab Police, for successfully bringing Amritpal Singh back to India to face justice.

SSP Batala, Suhail Qasim Mir, provided further details, explaining that Amritpal Singh, who was declared a proclaimed offender in multiple cases, fled to Austria via Dubai and Serbia in 2022 and had been evading arrest since then. He had also applied for political asylum in Austria.
“After sustained efforts and cooperation with international authorities, Punjab Police has ensured his repatriation to India to face justice,” said SSP Mir.
