Punjab Police Net Three Interstate Arms Smugglers in Amritsar

In another significant development towards Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s vision of a safe and secure Punjab, the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar has arrested three interstate arms smugglers. The operation, conducted on July 16th, resulted in the recovery of three .32 bore pistols, three magazines, and six live cartridges.

The arrested individuals are Sukhdev Singh alias Mattu, Sahil Kumar alias Mast (both from Chhota Haripura, Amritsar), and Prabhjot Singh alias Prabh (Guru Nanak Pura, Amritsar).

This arrest comes a day after SSOC successfully apprehended two operatives linked to foreign-based terrorist Lakhbir Landa. That raid yielded six sophisticated pistols and ammunition.

According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, reliable intel indicated a smuggling ring involving Amritsar residents. They allegedly procured weapons from Madhya Pradesh and planned to deliver them to criminals in Vallah’s Guru Tegh Bahadur Market area.

Acting swiftly, SSOC teams apprehended the trio while they awaited delivery. A preliminary investigation revealed a criminal past for Sukhdev Singh and Sahil Kumar, including a murder case. Efforts are underway to identify the Madhya Pradesh weapon dealer and intended recipients.

AIG SSOC Amritsar Sukhminder Singh Mann confirmed ongoing investigations to pinpoint the source and destination of the weapons. An FIR under Arms Act Section 25 and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act 61(2) has been registered at SSOC Amritsar Police Station (FIR No. 42 dated 15.07.2024).
