Chandigarh, March 6:
Punjab Police’s relentless campaign against drugs, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, marked its sixth consecutive day of action with raids at 501 locations across the state. These raids resulted in the arrest of 75 drug smugglers and the registration of 53 FIRs. This brings the total number of drug smugglers arrested to 622 in six days.
Police teams seized 8.2 kg of heroin, 4.5 kg of opium, 1294 intoxicant tablets/pills/injections, and ₹1.04 lakh in drug money from those arrested.
The operation was conducted simultaneously in all 28 police districts under the direction of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav.

CM Bhagwant Mann has given a three-month deadline to make Punjab drug-free, with a 5-member Cabinet Sub Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema monitoring the progress.
Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla reported that over 250 police teams, comprising over 1700 personnel and supervised by 108 gazetted officers, conducted the raids and checked 635 suspicious individuals.
In addition to enforcement efforts, Punjab Police is actively involved in de-addiction and prevention initiatives. On Thursday, nine individuals were persuaded to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment, and 172 awareness events were organized across the state.
