Chandigarh, November 30

Punjab Power and Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO announced that the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has achieved substantial cost savings of approximately Rs 1,000 crore by procuring coal from the Pachwara coal mine.

  • Cost-Effective Coal: The coal procured from Pachwara is significantly cheaper than that from Coal India Limited.
  • Increased Coal Stock: The state’s thermal power plants now have sufficient coal stocks to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
  • Improved Plant Performance: The acquisition of the GVK Thermal Plant and its subsequent operational improvements have led to increased power generation.
  • Subsidized Power Supply: The cost savings have enabled the state government to provide 300 units of free electricity to domestic consumers.
