Punjab’s Public Works Department (PWD) is significantly enhancing the state’s road network and accelerating development through various schemes, announced Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh E.T.O.
Detailing the progress, the Minister shared that in the financial year 2024-25, the PWD completed 279.64 km of roads and 8 bridges under the NABARD scheme at a cost of ₹104.28 crore. For 2025-26, a budget of ₹192 crore has been allocated to construct 125 km of roads, with 14.50 km already completed at an expenditure of ₹18.13 crore.
Under item 5054 RB-10, the PWD constructed 781 km of roads in 2024-25, incurring ₹503.02 crore. For the current fiscal year, a target of 840 km has been set with a budget of ₹663 crore, of which 342 km have been completed at a cost of ₹212 crore.
The Minister further noted that 10 bridges were completed in 2024-25 under item 5054, costing ₹48.29 crore. For 2025-26, the PWD plans to construct 31 bridges with an estimated budget of ₹155 crore, with work ongoing and ₹16.39 crore already spent.

Under the CRIF scheme, 147.68 km of roads were upgraded in 2024-25 at a cost of ₹141.80 crore. For 2025-26, a ₹190 crore budget has been allocated for 95 km of roads and 3 bridges, with 10 km of roads and 2 bridges currently under construction, utilizing ₹23.05 crore.
Harbhajan Singh emphasized the PWD’s pivotal role in strengthening Punjab’s infrastructure, ensuring improved connectivity and economic growth across the state.
