Rs. 51,000 Financial Aid Provided per Beneficiary Under the Scheme

The Punjab Government has sanctioned Rs. 20 crore under the Ashirwad Scheme to support families from Scheduled Castes, announced Dr. Baljit Kaur, Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities, on Saturday. This initiative aims to provide financial relief to economically disadvantaged households across the state.
Dr. Baljit Kaur, elaborating on the disbursement, stated that in the financial year 2024-25, Rs. 20 crore has been released following the processing of 3,922 applications from 12 districts. The Ashirwad Scheme offers Rs. 51,000 as financial assistance for the marriage of daughters from economically weaker families, ensuring support during significant life events.

The funds have been distributed across multiple districts, benefiting 1,476 families in Amritsar, 56 in Barnala, 111 in Faridkot, 389 in Ferozepur, 84 in Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, 188 in Fazilka, 216 in Kapurthala, 767 in Ludhiana, 96 in Mansa, 152 in Sri Muktsar Sahib, 89 in Rupnagar, and 298 in SBS Nagar.
Outlining the eligibility criteria, Dr. Kaur explained that applicants must be permanent Punjab residents belonging to Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, or Economically Weaker Sections, with an annual family income not exceeding Rs. 32,790. The scheme allows assistance for the marriage of up to two daughters per family.
To ensure transparency and efficiency, the minister highlighted that the aid is transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Dr. Baljit Kaur reaffirmed the Punjab Government’s commitment, under Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership, to the welfare and empowerment of marginalized communities. “We are tirelessly working to uplift the economically weaker sections, Scheduled Castes, and Backward Classes, helping them achieve self-reliance and economic stability,” she said.
