Punjab SEC Deploys 22 IAS Officers as Election Observers Across Districts

Chandigarh, December 11, 2024:

To ensure the smooth conduct of free, fair, and peaceful elections in accordance with legal provisions, the Punjab State Election Commission (SEC) has appointed 22 IAS officers as Election Observers in various districts of the state. Among them, five officers will oversee elections in the five Municipal Corporations, with one officer assigned to each Corporation.

An official spokesperson for the Punjab SEC announced that the remaining Observers will supervise the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat elections across different districts. These officers have been instructed to report to their designated districts by 11 AM on December 12, 2024, the final day for filing nominations, to monitor and assess election-related arrangements.

The Observers will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring law and order arrangements in coordination with the District Administration.
  • Addressing election-related complaints.
  • Verifying the adequacy of election materials.
  • Overseeing the commissioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
  • Supervising the training of polling staff.
  • Enforcing the Model Code of Conduct.
  • Monitoring Videography and CCTV arrangements.

These officials will remain in their respective districts until the conclusion of the counting process. The SEC has issued this information to keep the general public and candidates informed and ensure transparency in the electoral process.
