Punjab Seeks World Bank’s Support for Sustainable Development

Chandigarh, November 29:
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met with Auguste Tano Kouamé, the World Bank Country Director for India, to discuss potential collaborations to address key challenges facing the state.
Key Areas of Cooperation:
- Water Conservation: The state government is prioritizing groundwater conservation and efficient water usage, including canal lining and revival of watercourses.
- Agricultural Diversification: Punjab is exploring options to reduce reliance on paddy cultivation and promote alternative crops like pulses, maize, and oilseeds.
- Renewable Energy: The government is promoting solar energy adoption among farmers to reduce dependence on traditional energy sources.
- Infrastructure Development: The state is seeking financial assistance for infrastructure projects, including transportation, urban development, and rural development.
- Environmental Sustainability: Punjab is committed to environmental protection and is working to address issues like groundwater contamination and air pollution.
