Punjab Seizes Substandard DAP Fertilizer

Chandigarh, November 26

The Punjab Agriculture Department has taken strict action against a trader who was found selling substandard Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer.

A raid was conducted at M/s Singh Traders in Urapar village, SBS Nagar district, following complaints from farmers regarding high prices and poor quality of fertilizers. During the raid, 23 bags of DAP were seized.

Laboratory tests confirmed that the seized fertilizer contained significantly lower levels of nitrogen and phosphorus than the standard specifications. The actual content was found to be 2.80% nitrogen and 16.23% phosphorus, far below the required 18% and 46%, respectively.

An FIR has been registered against Harkirat Singh, the owner of the shop, under relevant sections of the Essential Commodities Act and the Fertilizer (Control) Order.

Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian has reiterated the state government’s commitment to protecting farmers’ interests. He has warned that strict action will be taken against those involved in such malpractices. The department will continue to conduct inspections and take necessary steps to ensure the quality of fertilizers and seeds available to farmers.
