The Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University, Patiala, will conduct trials on September 3, 2026, for various sports under its Sports Wing at Prof. Gursewak Singh Government College of Physical Education, Patiala.
Trials will be held for Judo, Fencing, Boxing, Hockey, Badminton, Basketball, Kabaddi, Netball, Archery, Athletics, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Handball, Swimming, Kho-Kho, Football, Gymnastics, Cycling and Lawn Tennis, among other disciplines.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill said the university is among the eight sports universities in India and is committed to promoting sports and creating opportunities for athletes to develop both physically and mentally and contribute to building a healthy society.

He said the university, established in 2019, has continued to make progress with its vision of “Khelega Punjab – Khilega Punjab”. He added that the institution is working continuously to create better opportunities for athletes and prepare them to meet challenges at every level.
Dr. Gill said the Punjab Government has already approved the university’s Sports Wing. Providing athletes with qualified coaches, quality sports facilities, nutritious food and modern training techniques remains a key priority of the university.
The Vice-Chancellor informed that the Sports Wing has a total of 350 seats, including 150 residential seats and 200 day-scholar seats. A diet provision of ₹225 per day for residential athletes and ₹125 per day for day scholars has also been made.
Dr. Gill described the trials as a golden opportunity for sportspersons across Punjab, saying they will get access to sports facilities and playing fields that rank among high-quality sporting infrastructure.
He encouraged aspiring athletes to make the most of the opportunity and participate in the trials to pursue their sporting careers through the university.
