Punjab to Install 20,000 Agri-Solar Pumps; 5,000 Reserved for SC Farmers and Panchayats

State government offers significant subsidies to promote sustainable agriculture
Punjab’s New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister, Aman Arora, announced that the state will install 20,000 solar pumps for agricultural use, with 5,000 specifically reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) farmers and Gram Panchayats.

The Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) will implement the scheme as part of the PM Kusum Scheme. SC farmers will receive an 80% subsidy on the total installation cost, while general category farmers will get a 60% subsidy.
Minister Arora emphasized the Punjab government’s commitment to decarbonizing the agriculture sector through the optimal use of solar energy. He directed PEDA officials to ensure transparent and efficient execution of the solar agri-pump project.

The New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister, along with the department secretary, reviewed the PEDA portal for applying and allocating agricultural solar pumps. They instructed officials to ensure a smooth and hassle-free online application process for farmers.
