Punjab Unleashes Bold Enrollment Drive: 23 Vans to Transform Education Across 228 Blocks

Chandigarh, March 20
Punjab’s School Education Minister, S. Harjot Singh Bains, launched an ambitious statewide campaign to supercharge student enrollment in government schools. The initiative roared to life at Government Primary Smart School, Phase-2, SAS Nagar, with the minister flagging off a vibrant van decked out with banners and loudspeakers. This is just the beginning—23 awareness vans are set to roll out, covering every inch of Punjab’s 228 educational blocks to amplify the campaign’s reach and rally parents to enroll their children in government schools.

Aiming High: 10% More Pre-Primary Students
The stakes are clear: the Education Department is targeting a 10% increase in pre-primary school enrollment. Building on last year’s success—where 3.51 lakh students filled the halls of Punjab’s 13,100 pre-primary schools—this campaign is poised to push the numbers even higher.
More Than a Drive—A Movement
This isn’t just about filling seats; it’s about changing lives. The campaign’s mission is threefold:
- Find out-of-school children and bring them into the education fold.
- Boost government school admissions with a statewide push.
- Forge stronger community ties to guarantee every child gets a shot at learning.
The effort is a true team-up, with local MLAs, Deputy Commissioners, SDMs, School Management Committees, panchayats, and school heads all pitching in. “We’re here to spark a realization—education is the key, and government schools are the door,” Bains emphasized.
Proof of Excellence: 189 JEE Mains Victories
Bains beamed with pride as he shared a standout achievement: 189 students from government schools cracked the JEE Mains examination this year. “This isn’t luck—it’s evidence of the top-tier education our schools deliver,” he said, tipping his hat to the students and their dedicated teachers. It’s a loud and clear message: government schools aren’t just competing—they’re excelling.
Three Years of Big Wins Under CM Mann
Under Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership, Punjab’s government schools have seen a revolution in the past three years. The upgrades are impressive:
- Wi-Fi buzzing in every school.
- Furniture and separate toilets for girls and boys, ticking all the essentials.
- Transportation rolling out for students at all Schools of Eminence and 17 girls’ schools.
- 10,000 new classrooms built, 6,000 renovated, and 1,300 km of boundary walls securing 8,000 schools.
These aren’t just improvements—they’re game-changers, setting the stage for a new era of education in Punjab.
Leading the Charge
The launch wasn’t a solo act. Director SCERT Ms. Amaninder Kaur Brar, Director School Education (Secondary) Paramjit Singh, and other senior officials stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Bains, signaling a united front in this education push.
As the 23 vans hit the road, Punjab is making a promise: every child deserves a quality education, and the government is delivering. This campaign isn’t just a drive—it’s a declaration that Punjab’s future starts in its classrooms.
