Chandigarh, May 22, 2025:
In a crackdown aligned with the Punjab government’s zero-tolerance policy against corruption, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) apprehended Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Major Singh, posted at the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Bathinda Range, and his private driver, Ram Singh, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1,05,000.

A VB spokesperson stated that the arrests followed a complaint by a resident of Raipur village, Sardulgarh tehsil, Mansa district. The complainant reported that the ANTF Mansa team had registered a case under the NDPS Act against his son and others at Mohali. During the investigation, ASI Major Singh visited the complainant’s shop, demanding Rs 2 lakh to release gold seized during his son’s arrest. After negotiations, the complainant alleged that Ram Singh demanded Rs 5,000 for himself and Rs 1.5 lakh for ASI Major Singh. The complainant recorded the bribe demand and submitted the evidence to the VB.
Following a preliminary inquiry, the VB set up a trap and arrested ASI Major Singh and Ram Singh while they accepted Rs 1,05,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. A case has been registered against both under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB Police Station, Bathinda Range. Further investigations are underway.
