The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Charanjit Singh, stationed at Ludhiana City’s Division No. 5 Police Station. Singh surrendered to the authorities after a corruption case was registered against him for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 2,70,000.

According to a VB spokesperson, a complaint was filed by Kamaljit Ahuja, owner of Hotel Taj in Ludhiana, through the Chief Minister’s anti-corruption helpline. Ahuja alleged that Singh threatened him with adding sections 307 and 379-B of the IPC to an existing case against his family members unless he paid the bribe. The complaint further stated demands for additional monthly payments to ensure smooth operation of the hotel.

An investigation confirmed the allegations through witness testimonies and recorded conversations between Ahuja and Singh. It revealed that Singh not only took the bribe of Rs. 2,70,000, supposedly on behalf of the Station House Officer (SHO), but also demanded Rs. 2 lakh monthly for Ahuja’s business.
