Details of the Case
A resident of Babri Nangal village, Gurdaspur, lodged a complaint with the VB, alleging that Nishan Singh demanded the bribe to resolve a land-related issue. The complainant, a current Panchayat member, stated that her husband has been cultivating 22 kanals and 11 marlas of shamlat land (out of 25 acres) for 50 years, with the land title (Girdawari) registered in his name. Following a complaint, the BDPO office required her to submit a clarification. Despite approaching the village Sarpanch, the accused Patwari insisted on a ₹20,000 bribe to settle the matter.
