The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested Constable Adarshdeep Singh, stationed at CIA-2 Staff, Amritsar, on Tuesday for demanding a Rs. 60,000 bribe as part of its anti-corruption drive.
A VB spokesperson revealed that the arrest followed a complaint filed by an Amritsar resident through the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line. The complainant alleged that Constable Adarshdeep demanded Rs. 60,000 to refrain from filing a baseless FIR against his neighbor, Kishan Kumar. The complainant noted that Kishan Kumar, a former drug peddler, had reformed and now works as a private security guard. Despite a raid by CIA-2 personnel at Kumar’s residence yielding no illegal findings, the accused constable had already extorted Rs. 50,000 and was pressing for the remaining amount.
