Punjab Vigilance Bureau Arrests Proclaimed Offender in Paddy Scam

Chandigarh, October 25

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Gulshan Jain, a proclaimed offender linked to a multi-crore paddy scam in Amritsar district.

Case Details: Gulshan Jain was declared a proclaimed offender in 2019 in connection with a case registered against him and others for misappropriating and pilfering paddy worth approximately Rs. 33.6 crores.

Arrest and Further Investigations: The VB arrested Jain from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, where he was apprehended by the CBI for other cases. A five-day police remand has been granted by the court.

Ongoing Investigation: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Vigilance Bureau is continuing investigations into the case, focusing on the involvement of other individuals and the extent of the financial fraud.

Previous Arrests and Charges: Several other accused, including officials from the Department of Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, have been arrested and charged in connection with the scam.
