Officials caught red-handed accepting Rs 50,000 bribe

Chandigarh, 06 September

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Tehsildar Lakhwinder Singh of Dera Baba Nanak and his driver for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.

The arrest follows a complaint filed by Sukhdev Singh Sohi, a resident of Village Mansoor, Tehsil Dera Baba Nanak, district Gurdaspur. Sohi alleged that the Tehsildar had demanded a bribe to favor him in a land dispute case.

After a preliminary inquiry, the VB laid a trap and caught the Tehsildar and his driver red-handed while accepting the bribe. The Tehsildar had handed over the bribe money to his driver, who was also arrested as an accomplice.
