Chandigarh, August 24
In a significant step towards eradicating corruption in Punjab, the Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Saturday, August 24, 2024, arrested two auditors, Jagjit Singh and Amit, posted at the Local Audit Office in Ferozepur. The auditors were caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1,30,000 from an Indian Army personnel.
The VB spokesperson revealed that the arrest followed a complaint lodged by Naib Subedar Satya Prakash (JC4829875Y) of the 17th Rajput Regiment, stationed in Ferozepur Cantonment. The complainant alleged that the auditors had demanded a bribe of Rs 1,50,000 to clear audit objections from the previous year and to approve the current year’s audit of his unit’s financial records.
The auditors’ demand was reiterated by Jagjit Singh in the presence of his colleague, Dharmraj, at the Local Audit Office. The complainant secretly recorded the conversation on his mobile phone.
