The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has successfully uncovered a bribery case against Gurjit Singh, a Tax Collector posted in the Block Development and Panchayats Office (BDPO) in Khuhian Sarwar, Fazilka district. Singh is accused of demanding a bribe of Rs. 50,000 to clear pending bills for a local businessman.
According to the VB spokesperson, the case was registered based on a complaint lodged by Sunil Kumar, a resident of Diwan Khera village, on the Chief Minister’s Anti-corruption Action Line. Kumar, a building material supplier, had provided materials to six village panchayats worth Rs. 8,62,989. However, Singh allegedly demanded a hefty bribe to process the bills.

Upon investigation, the VB found evidence supporting Kumar’s allegations, confirming that Singh had indeed accepted Rs. 50,000 in exchange for clearing the bills. A corruption case has been filed against Singh under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB police station in Ferozepur range. The Bureau is currently conducting further investigations into the matter.
